Which Teams Win The Most Corners?

For every league that we log corner stats for we have a dedicated page that shows you which teams win the most corners in that league. For example, check out our Teams That Win The Most Corners In The Premier League page

As a general rule you might find from the statistics that the teams nearer the top of the league win the most corners. This is usually because the teams at the top of the league table are the most winning and attacking teams, and therefore create more goal scoring opportunities than lower teams. Conversely however, you might observe that teams that win a lot of corners also do not concede many corners. Good teams are usually good at attacking, but equally good at defending.

Predicting Corners Won

Which Factors Predict Teams That Win Corners?

There are a number of factors that might influence how many corners a team wins. You might want to consider

  • Whether a team generally and consistently wins more corners at home than away. Teams may be more attacking in their playing style at home and therefore win more corners.
  • How many shots on and off goal a team consistently has. Shots on and off goal may be correlated to corners won given that goalkeeper saves and defender blocks on shots can increase the likelihood of corners being won.
  • A team's stlye of play and formation. Teams that play a lot of wide football, with wingers and a lot of play down the flanks may win more corners than teams that play through the middle of the field. This may be because teams that play the ball wide and attack the goal down the flanks of the pitch end up attemping to cross the ball into the penalty area, from which crosses get blocked and diverted behind for corner kicks.
  • When favourites are losing games they may tend to win more corners in those games, as they chase a result and attack their opposition. Conversely teams that lead games early in the game may sit back and not attack as much as they would if they were losing the game, and therefore might not win as many corners as expected.
