UEFA Nations, played Thursday, September 5th, 2024
Here is our Scotland v Poland tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a Scotland home win. Our confidence in this tip was low relative to other tips.
In the other game being played in League A/1, Scotland will take on Poland at Hampden Park in Glasgow with the Scots looking to consolidate their position in the top league of the UEFA Nations League after securing promotion from League B at the end of the previous campaign, while Poland managed to hold their own in Group 4 claiming a third place finish behind Netherlands and Belgium whilst consigning Wales to relegation.
However, despite Scotland's previously successful campaign in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League which resulted in Steve Clarke's side gaining promotion from a group containing the likes of Ukraine, Republic of Ireland and Albania, the hard work in maintaining their top tier status in this competition now begins in earnest.
Scotland had previously booked their place in the recent Euro 2024 finals thanks to finishing runners-up behind Spain in their qualifying Group A thanks to putting together an impressive five-match winning streak which consisted of important victories against Cyprus (home and away), Spain, Norway and Georgia respectively.
However, the Scots failed to make it past the group stage of the Euro finals as they slipped up against Germany 5-1 and Hungary 1-0 and picked up just the solitary point in the group stage thanks to a 1-1 draw with Switzerland, while the bigger picture now shows Scotland have registered just one win in their previous 12 matches in all competitions.
Poland only qualified for the recent Euro 2024 finals by virtue of beating Wales on penalties in a qualifying play-off after producing a resounding 5-1 victory over Estonia in the semi-finals but they too failed to emerge from their Group D as they finished bottom of the group with just one point to their name thanks to a 1-1 draw with France.
However, the Poles had previously suffered back-to-back defeats in the group stage of the Euro finals to Netherlands and Austria which culminated in a thoroughly disappointing Euro campaign which belied their previously encouraging results prior to the tournament.
Indeed, Poland had put together a useful looking eight-match unbeaten sequence in all competitions which included notable wins in international friendlies against Ukraine and Turkey, both of which were recorded on home soil in Warsaw, but results away from home have been fairly disappointing.
Poland have won just three out of their last 12 outings on their travels and having also been handed five defeats, they may well have their work cut out against Scotland at Hampden Park on Thursday night.
Scotland v Poland Verdict
Scotland and Poland are expected to be fighting it out to avoid relegation from League A and as four of the last six meetings have resulted in Under 2.5 goals, this upcoming clash could result in another cagey and low-scoring affair.
Therefore, our main bet will be Under 2.5 goals @ 1.60
Other side bets worth considering:
Scotland win @ 2.45
Correct Score: Scotland 1-0 @ 7.00
