Villarreal and Real Betis finished in fifth and sixth place respectively at the end of last season's La Liga campaign and these two sides will meet at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday evening, no doubt both keen to make positive starts to this new season.

Villarreal could only manage to muster a single point from their final two games of last term as the hosts were handed a 2-1 defeat away from home at Rayo Vallecano but signed off their season with a creditable point by way of a 2-2 draw at home with Atletico Madrid.

The bigger picture shows Villarreal suffered just the one defeat in their final eight games of last season's Spanish top flight campaign whilst also picking up five wins within this period as well, collecting important wins against Espanyol, Celta Vigo, Athletic Bilbao, Girona and Cadiz, which helped lift Villarreal into fifth place.

However, Villarreal have since played a number of pre-season friendlies prior to the start of this new La Liga campaign and the hosts have produced a raft of disappointing results, winning just one of their seven warm-up games but goals look set to feature in this upcoming clash as nine of Villarreal's last 10 matches in La Liga resulted in both teams scoring.

Real Betis achieved a sixth place finish at the end of last season's domestic top flight campaign following a 2-1 win away from home at Girona before they too finished last term with a draw, which was a 1-1 stalemate at home with Valencia.

A top seven finish was called into question though towards the end of the season as Real Betis had managed to collect just two wins from a nine-match spell from early March through to towards the end of April which included victories over Mallorca and Espanyol but also included four defeats as well.

Losses on the road at Atletico Madrid, Osasuna and Barcelona, the latter a 4-0 rout at the Nou Camp, threatened Real Betis' dream of claiming a European spot but the visitors managed to rally by losing just one further game in their final six matches of the season.

Victories over Athletic Bilbao, Rayo Vallecano and Girona helped secure a sixth place finish while on the road, Real Betis lost just three of their last 10 outings on their travels, five of which resulted in both teams scoring.
