La Liga newcomers, Las Palmas, will begin this new Spanish top flight campaign with a home fixture against Mallorca at their Estadio de Gran Canaria no doubt looking to make a positive start to this new term after securing automatic promotion from La Liga 2 at the end of last season.

Las Palmas put together what proved to be a vital six-match unbeaten run towards the end of last season and they just about pipped third-placed Levante into the runners-up spot behind the title winners, Granada, on goal difference by the slender margin of just four goals to claim a place in this season's La Liga.

It's been five seasons since Las Palmas last appeared in the Spanish top flight and the hosts will be desperate to maintain their top flight status this time around but recent results on home soil suggest it may be better to delve into the goals markets here.

Las Palmas have registered just one win from their last nine home games in all competitions, while seven of these nine home games have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals.

Mallorca achieved a creditable top half finish in last season's Spanish top flight campaign as the visitors finished in ninth place in the La Liga standings but they too have produced a mixed bag of results in recent times, picking up just three wins out of their last eight matches overall.

However, out of Mallorca's total of 14 wins last season, only four were achieved away from home where the visitors' form and results suffered a sharp decline in fortunes on the road towards the latter stages of the last campaign.

Indeed, Mallorca managed to capture just one win out of their last 12 outings on their travels which was achieved by way of a 1-0 win at Celta Vigo but a steady stream of defeats on the road outweighed Mallorca's minimal success.

Mallorca lost 10 of these last 12 away games, six of which resulted in Under 2.5 goals while the visitors also struggled to even hit the back of the net, failing to score in seven of these 12 away games.

The previous meeting between Las Palmas and Mallorca was back in April 2021 when both teams were in La Liga 2, and the encounter ended in a 1-1 stalemate, and perhaps we shouldn't expect too many goals in this upcoming clash as five of the previous eight meetings have resulted in Under 2.5 goals (62.5%).
