Girona bounced back from a previous disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Villarreal in the Spanish top flight on Sunday when they recorded a 3-1 win away from home at Valencia to confirm a third place finish in this season's La Liga campaign, while Granada slumped to a fourth defeat on the trot on the weekend following a 2-1 loss at home to Celta Vigo but the visitors had already been condemned to relegation from the domestic top flight a few games beforehand.

This campaign has been a break-out season for Girona as they have not only achieved a top four finish in the table but have also secured themselves a Champions League spot for next season with this season's exploits easily outstripping last season's mid-table finish of 10th place in the La Liga table.
