Girona were handed a second defeat on the trot in the Spanish top flight on the weekend when last season's top four finishers in La Liga were dealt a disappointing 2-1 defeat away from home at Mallorca which resulted with Girona dropping down the La Liga table to a mid-table position of 10th place.

Real Valladolid finally returned to winning ways in the domestic top flight last weekend following a 1-0 home win against the bottom club Valencia, but league wins have been hard to come by for the visitors who currently sit second from bottom in the La Liga table.

Girona have slipped to two defeats on the trot in quick succession as the hosts were previously dealt a heavy 3-0 loss at home to Real Madrid, so the hosts will be hoping they can rekindle the kind of form which brought them three wins on the trot in previous weeks here on Friday night.

Michel Sanchez's side had earlier picked up important wins against the likes of Leganes, Getafe and Espanyol in 4-3, 1-0 and 4-1 wins respectively in La Liga but results overall so far in this current campaign have been something of a mixed bag where Girona have been concerned.

Real Valladolid earned a narrow 1-0 home win against fellow strugglers Valencia last weekend in the domestic top flight which did their ambitions of La Liga survival no harm at all as the visitors moved off the bottom of the table and into second from bottom position.

However, Real Valladolid had previously stumbled to six games without a win in the Spanish top flight which included being handed no fewer than five defeats in the process while picking up just the single point from a possible 18 on offer.

Three of these recent five defeats were inflicted upon Diego Cocca's side on their travels with losses incurred on the road at Osasuna, Getafe and Las Palmas respectively, while the bigger picture shows Real Valladolid have registered just two wins from their previous 16 league matches overall.

11 of these last 16 matches have also seen Real Valladolid ending up on the losing side and therefore the visitors' prospects are not considered particularly high ahead of this upcoming trip to the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi on Friday night.
