Espanyol's winless run in the Spanish top flight was extended to two matches on the weekend when the hosts drew a blank in a 0-0 stalemate at home with Osasuna which followed a previous 1-0 defeat away from home at Getafe, but the upcoming hosts have a chance to redeem themselves on home soil at their RCDE Stadium on Wednesday night.

Valencia slipped to a third league defeat on the trot in La Liga on the weekend when they suffered a 1-0 loss away from home at Real Valladolid which in turn has dumped the visitors to the bottom of the Spanish top flight table and six points adrift of safety ahead of this midweek clash.

Espanyol have found league wins hard to come by so far in this season's La Liga campaign as the hosts have collected just four wins in total, all of which have been achieved on home soil at their RCDE Stadium.

Important victories against the likes of Rayo Vallecano, Alaves, Mallorca and Celta Vigo have not been enough though to prevent Manolo González's side from dropping down into the relegation zone of the La Liga table although home advantage may be in their favour on Wednesday night.

Indeed, Espanyol have won four of their seven home games so far this season.

Onto Valencia and the visitors have slipped to three recent defeats on the trot in the domestic top flight, losing at the hands of Mallorca, Rayo Vallecano and Real Valladolid respectively which does not appear to bode well for this upcoming clash at the RCDE Stadium against fellow strugglers, Espanyol.

Valencia have fared even worse than their upcoming hosts though in terms of capturing top flight wins in this season's La Liga campaign as Rubén Baraja's side have managed to pick up only two wins all season to date, both of which were at home.

Rare wins against Girona and Real Betis, whilst creditable victories, have been the only highlights in what has otherwise been a disastrous campaign so far for Valencia who now sit bottom of the La Liga table, having also slipped to nine defeats within their 15 league matches so far.

Results away from home have done most of the damage to an already woeful campaign as Valencia have picked up just two points from a possible 24 on offer on the road, drawing twice but also being handed no fewer than six losses within their eight away games.

The bigger picture shows Valencia have now failed to win any of their last 11 outings on the road in La Liga, slipping to eight defeats in the process.
