Motherwell made it two wins on the trot in the Scottish Premiership over the weekend as the hosts registered an entertaining and high-scoring 4-3 home win against Dundee United which has helped lift Friday night's upcoming hosts up into fourth place in the Scottish top flight table.

Kilmarnock finally returned to winning ways in the domestic top flight north of the border on Sunday when they managed to muster a valuable 1-0 home win against Scottish Premiership strugglers Hearts which in turn lifted Killie up into eighth place in the table.

Motherwell had previously registered a 1-0 win away from home at St Mirren so Friday night's hosts will be looking to make it three victories on the trot at their Fir Park ground which would reduce the deficit between themselves and third placed Rangers to just four points.

The visitors had previously picked up two draws but had also slipped to four defeats within their preceding six league matches overall, which means Killie had collected just two points from the previously possible 18 on offer beforehand.

To make things worse, three of Kilmarnock's recent four losses have been incurred on their travels with defeats at Dundee, St Johnstone and Rangers, the latter being a particularly heavy 6-0 thrashing at Ibrox.

The bigger picture shows Kilmarnock have managed to register just four wins from their last 19 matches overall in the Scottish Premiership so even though Derek McInnes's side finally returned to winning ways last weekend, that may have just been an anomaly.

Results away from home suggest Kilmarnock may well have their work cut out on Friday night when they hit the road to Fir Park, especially as Killie have racked up just two wins from their last 11 outings on the road, stumbling to six defeats in the process.
