Dundee vs Rangers Preview

Dundee take on Rangers at their Dens Park ground in this Wednesday evening clash in the Scottish top flight with Dundee moving up into fifth spot following their impressive 2-0 win away from home at Livingston which also extended their unbeaten run to four games overall while Rangers kept tabs on the league leaders, Celtic, by recording a 2-1 home win against Hearts.

Newly promoted Dundee swapped divisions with their very close neighbours, Dundee United, at the end of last season following promotion from the Championship while United were relegated down to the second tier, but it's the hosts that have made a solid start to this new Scottish top flight campaign having lost just twice in their opening nine games.

Dundee's two defeats came in the form of losses incurred against St Mirren and Celtic, both of which were away from home while the hosts have also picked up two wins to date this term, with wins against Hearts (at home) and the aforementioned result against Livingston (away).

However, the bigger picture shows Dundee have picked up just three wins from their last 23 matches in the Scottish Premiership which also includes nine defeats, one of which was a 2-1 loss at home to Wednesday night's opponents, Rangers.

Onto Rangers, and the second placed club left it very late to collect all three points in Sunday's clash at home against Hearts as The ‘Gers were trailing 1-0 with just stoppage time remaining but the hosts scored two goals in the last remaining minutes to grab what could prove to be an important win.

Nevertheless, that late show brought about a third league win on the trot for Philippe Clement's side following previous wins against St Mirren 3-0 and a 4-0 thumping of Hibernian, so the visitors will head into Wednesday's clash with Dundee in confident mood.

Rangers haven't been entirely convincing though so far this season as they have been handed three defeats already this term within their opening 10 games of this new term which have come in the shape of losses to Kilmarnock, Celtic and Aberdeen, the latter two defeats being on home soil at Ibrox.

The visitors do possess a pretty impressive record on the road though in the Scottish top flight as they have been dealt just three defeats out of their last 17 outings on their travels and having also collected no fewer than 13 wins in the process, Clement's side look to be in the driving seat ahead of this upcoming encounter at Dens Park.
