Roma vs Lecce Preview

Roma will return to their home surroundings of their Stadio Olimpico for Sunday evening's clash with Lecce with the hosts looking to bounce back from last weekend's 1-0 defeat away from home at Inter Milan, while Lecce suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Torino which extended their winless run in Serie A to five games.

Roma had previously put together an impressive looking three-match winning streak in the Italian top flight as Jose Mourinho's men had racked up important wins against Frosinone, Cagliari and Monza in 2-0, 4-1 and 1-0 victories respectively but the hosts still find themselves three points adrift of the top six pack ahead of this weekend's action.

Four defeats within their opening 10 games of this new Serie A campaign haven't exactly helped either, but it is interesting to note that three of Roma's four defeats to date this term were handed to Mourinho's side on their travels, whilst losing just once on home soil at their Stadio Olimpico.

Roma's singular defeat at home came in the form of a 2-1 loss to AC Milan but having also won those three aforementioned games in subsequent weeks, the hosts still pose a serious threat to Lecce especially in their own backyard.

Lecce slumped to a fifth league game without a win in the Italian top flight last weekend and a third loss in five games following a 1-0 defeat at home to Torino which resulted in the visitors dropping down to 11th place in the Serie A table.

Previous losses to Juventus and Napoli have also overshadowed Lecce's points picked up in draws with the likes of Sassuolo and Udinese, both of whom currently occupy places in the lower reaches of the Serie A table in 15th and 17th places respectively.

This current slump in form is in stark contrast to the solid start that Lecce produced at the start of this Serie A season which saw the visitors put together an encouraging run of five games without a loss and included picking up wins against Lazio, Salernitana and Genoa - all of which were achieved on home soil at their Stadio Comunale Via del Mare.

However, results away from home have seen Lecce struggle to pick up three points on their travels as Roberto D'Aversa's side have managed to capture just one win from their previous 11 outings on the road whilst also being handed six defeats along the way as well.

Goals may be in short supply here though as eight of Lecce's last 11 away games have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals being scored.

Roma are unbeaten in each of the previous five meetings against Lecce and Mourinho's men have won four of these games so the hosts are expected to gain the upper hand here.
