With just three games remaining of the Italian top flight season, sixth placed Roma are still very much in the frame for a possible top five finish in Serie A and the accompanying spot in next season's Champions League as the hosts trail fifth placed Atalanta by a four-point margin but it's worth noting that Atalanta meet Roma later on in Sunday night's clash, so Lazio will be keen to take advantage of any slip-up.

Lazio have given themselves a fighting chance of achieving their Champions League aspirations in recent weeks as Igor Tudor's side have captured three wins out of their last four unbeaten games which includes picking up important wins against Salernitana, Genoa and Verona along with gaining a point in a draw away from home at Monza last weekend.

Empoli themselves also need all three points here on Sunday morning as the visitors currently sit just one league position and just two points above the relegation zone prior to this tough looking trip to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Lazio and having managed to capture just two wins from their previous nine games overall, the visitors look to have their work cut out in this upcoming encounter.

Victories against Torino and most notably a 1-0 win against Napoli were both registered on home soil at their Stadio Carlo Castellani but these wins have been overshadowed by six defeats within this nine-game sequence with four of these six losses being inflicted upon Davide Nicola's side on their travels.

Losses on the road at the hands of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Lecce and Atalanta have not only outweighed Empoli's modest recent successes but also suggest that this upcoming clash with Lazio could result in further disappointment.

The bigger picture shows Empoli have managed to capture just two wins from their previous 11 outings on the road and having also slipped to six defeats within this period as well, this upcoming trip to the Stadio Olimpico does not bode well for the visitors.
