Sligo Rovers will be bidding for all three points on Saturday night when they play host to fellow strugglers, Cork City, in what could be described as a ‘six pointer' clash in the Irish Premier Division at The Showgrounds with only three points separating the two clubs from the relegation play-off spot.

With bottom placed club, UCD, seemingly now on course for almost certain relegation, the battle to avoid the relegation play-off spot now intensifies and two of the potential candidates will meet here on Saturday night with Sligo Rovers looking to capture only a third win in 11 games on home soil.

This is unlikely to be an easy task though as Sligo Rovers have registered just two wins out of their previous 10 games overall with wins against Derry City and Bohemians, whilst also slipping to seven defeats in the process.

However, Sligo Rovers will take heart from the fact that both of these victories were recorded on home turf at The Showgrounds where the hosts have lost just four of their last 13 games.

Cork City currently occupy the relegation play-off spot and although the visitors hold a comfortable looking 14-point cushion above the basement dwellers, UCD, Cork City will still be eager to rid themselves of this unwanted league position as soon as possible and start moving up the Premier Division table.

This may be easier said than done as well for a Cork City outfit who have managed to capture just four wins from their previous 14 league games overall as the visitors have also been handed no fewer than eight losses within this period, five of which were dealt out to Cork City on their travels.

Cork City had previously put together a four-match winning streak in the Irish top flight which consisted of wins against Sligo Rovers (at home), Shamrock Rovers, Drogheda United and Bohemians respectively but this has proved to be a temporary improvement rather than Cork City turning a corner as the visitors have failed to win any of their subsequent four league matches.

It's also worth mentioning that three of Cork City's recent four wins were achieved on home soil at their Turner's Cross ground, while results on the road have been extremely poor with Cork City recording just one victory out of their last 24 outings on their travels.

Although results haven't exactly been off the charts for Sligo Rovers, the hosts have produced some successful results on home soil whereas Cork City's form on the road has been simply disastrous.
