Galway United vs Dundalk Preview

Galway United registered a 3-2 win away from home at Drogheda United in last week's Irish Premier Division action and the hosts will be looking for more of the same when they return to the more familiar surroundings of their Eamonn Deacy Park for this Friday night's clash against Dundalk who still sit bottom of the Premier Division table and six points adrift of safety despite picking up a rare 1-0 home win against Shamrock Rovers last week.

Galway United currently sit in fourth place in the Premier Division table but just one point shy of third placed Shamrock Rovers ahead of Friday night's clash with lowly Dundalk and having put together a solid and stubborn looking eight-game unbeaten sequence in the Irish top flight, the hosts look in good shape to add to their points tally and perhaps break into the top three.

Victories against Shelbourne 1-0, Bohemians 1-0 and the aforementioned 3-2 win away at Drogheda United have been further boosted by points picked up in five draws as well, although results on home soil this season have been a bit of a mixed bag.

John Caulfield's side have managed to register just two wins within their opening eight home games along with three defeats but the goals market appeals here as seven of Galway United's eight home games have resulted in Under 2.5 goals.

Dundalk avoided a third league defeat on the trot in the Irish top flight last week when they recorded a welcome 1-0 home win against Shamrock Rovers which saw the visitors put a halt to previous defeats at the hands of Drogheda United and Waterford respectively.

However, success so far for Dundalk this season has been sparing to say the least as Liam Burns' side have managed to capture just two wins throughout this season's Premier Division campaign to date, both of which have been achieved on home soil at Oriel Park and includes an earlier 2-0 victory over Bohemians.

This of course means that Dundalk have failed to win any of their eight away games so far this term and indeed, the visitors have drawn just twice but have also slipped to six defeats within this period as well which doesn't appear to bode well for this upcoming trip to Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday night.

Therefore, the prospects of a Dundalk win on the road at Galway United look to be slim at best while four of their eight outings to date this season have also produced two goals or less.
