Union Berlin face a very tense and nervy final day of this season's Bundesliga campaign as the hosts currently occupy third from bottom place in the Bundesliga table and therefore the relegation play-off spot following last weekend's 3-2 loss away from home at FC Cologne which further extended Union Berlin's winless run in the domestic top flight to seven games, while Freiburg were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Heidenheim.

Five defeats within their last seven games have placed Union Berlin in a precarious position ahead of this final home game of the season after Marco Grote's side have slumped to losses at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen, Augsburg, Bayern Munich, Bochum and FC Cologne respectively and although the hosts have collected points in draws with Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia M'gladbach, these have not been enough to lift Union Berlin away from the danger zone.

The visitors have also had their own problems in recent weeks in the German top flight as Freiburg have failed to win any of their last four games overall which consists of three draws and a defeat; a 2-1 loss at home to Wolfsburg has been compensated by points picked up in stalemates with Mainz, FC Cologne and Heidenheim but these have still not been enough for the visitors to break into the top seven places.

The bigger picture shows Freiburg have managed to capture just three wins out of their last 15 matches overall in the domestic top flight but the glimmer of hope for Christian Streich's side is the fact that all three victories have been achieved on their travels.

Wins on the road at Bochum, Borussia M'gladbach and Darmstadt will still give Freiburg reasons to be confident about their chances of producing a winning result here at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
