Mainz had previously put together an impressive and solid looking 10-match unbeaten run in the German top flight which consisted of six wins and four draws and the visitors were seemingly on course to achieve a top seven finish in this season's Bundesliga campaign.

However, Mainz have since imploded in dramatic fashion and the bigger picture shows that they have managed to pick up just two wins out of their last 10 outings on the road, so the prospects of them gaining a result against a highly motivated Borussia Dortmund outfit looks highly unlikely.
