Toulouse vs Lyon Preview

Toulouse's recent three-match winning streak in the French top flight was halted last weekend by way of a 1-0 defeat away from home at Le Havre but the hosts now return to the more familiar surroundings of their Stadium de Toulouse for Friday night's clash with fellow mid-table occupants, Lyon, while the visitors picked up a fifth win in six games overall in Ligue 1 after recording a morale-boosting 2-0 victory on the road at Lorient.

Toulouse had previously collected important and impressive wins against Monaco (away), Lille and Nice (both at home) which had lifted the hosts up into 11th place but although they suffered defeat last time out, Carles Martinez's side are still only two points behind their 10th placed visitors ahead of Friday night's encounter.

The hosts had endured a tough patch of form earlier in the season when Toulouse failed to win any of their Ligue 1 games from early October through to towards the end of December which spanned a total of 10 league matches and included being handed five defeats in the process but recent results have seen the hosts produce an improvement in form.

Carles Marinez's side have won five out of their subsequent eight matches overall while five of these eight games have also resulted in both teams scoring as well.

Lyon are now enjoying a much more stable period in this season's Ligue 1 campaign as the visitors occupy the relative safety of 10th place in the domestic top flight table following a disastrous start to the campaign which produced only one win from their opening 14 matches of the new term but also included no fewer than nine defeats as well.

However, Lyon have staged an impressive comeback in the domestic top flight in recent times as Pierre Sage's side have picked up eight wins within their subsequent 11 games overall which has lifted them six points clear of the bottom three clubs in the division although being still nine points adrift of sixth placed Nice, it looks like Lyon will have to write off this season in terms of achieving a European spot.

Nevertheless, four of their eight wins have been achieved on their travels with wins gained at Monaco, Montpellier, Metz and Lorient respectively and this will give the visitors plenty of confidence when they make their way to the Stadium de Toulouse on Friday night.

In addition, Lyon have now won four out of their last five away games in Ligue 1 so they also look a threat ahead of Friday night's encounter against Toulouse.
