Rennes vs Lyon Preview

Rennes slipped to a third defeat in four games in the French top tier last weekend when they were handed a 2-0 defeat away from home at Nice but the hosts now return to the more familiar surroundings of their Roazhon Park where they'll be eager to set the record straight and halt a four-match winless sequence, while Lyon's woes continued as they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home with Metz last weekend.

Rennes began this season's Ligue 1 campaign though in sparkling form as the hosts recorded a comprehensive 5-1 thrashing of Metz at home to get the hosts' season off in winning style but a string of draws and just one further win in the shape of a 3-1 home win against Nantes slowed down the hosts' progress along with failing to win any of their subsequent four matches.

Lyon's winless start to this season's Ligue 1 campaign continued and extended to 10 matches last weekend when they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home by fellow strugglers Metz at their Groupama Stadium and the visitors' fall from grace only seems to worsen as each game passes at the moment.

Six defeats within their opening 10 games in this new term has contributed to Lyon's poor league position of bottom in the Ligue 1 table while four draws have simply not been enough to lift them above the teams around them in the division.

Results at home have seen Lyon draw three and lose three as they have accumulated the bulk of their meagre return of four points on home soil but results away from home have told a very different story for Fabio Grosso's side who have slumped to three defeats within their opening four outings on the road.

Lyon have also failed to score in four of their 10 league matches to date and this could be another factor against them on Sunday afternoon.
