Marseille's promising unbeaten start to this new Ligue 1 season was brought to a halt last weekend when they were handed a 1-0 defeat away from home at Strasbourg as the hosts slipped to their first loss of the new term, while Angers find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Ligue 1 table after a disappointing 3-1 loss at home to Reims last weekend.

Last weekend's defeat has resulted in Marseille dropping down to third place in the Ligue 1 standings but they now return to their Orange Vélodrome for this upcoming home clash against bottom placed Angers with the perfect opportunity to respond with all three points on Friday night.

Angers' woeful start to this season's Ligue 1 campaign continued in disappointing fashion last weekend when they were dealt a heavy 3-1 loss at home to Reims which in turn became a fourth loss in their opening six games for the hapless visitors.

Angers are now the only team in Ligue 1 who have yet to register a league win so far in this campaign having drawn twice and lost four times; points picked up in draws with Strasbourg and Nantes have been swamped by incurring losses at the hands of Lens, Lille, Nice and Reims respectively.

Results overall in the domestic top flight have been particularly poor from Angers' perspective as the visitors have collected just the single win in their previous 14 games which came in the form of a rare 2-1 home win against Troyes but having also slipped to no fewer than 10 defeats as well, Alexandre Dujeux's side look to have another mountain to climb here on Friday night.

In addition, Angers have now failed to win any of their last 17 outings in Ligue 1, slipping to 14 losses along with failing to score in no fewer than 10 of these 17 away games as well.
