Le Havre face the toughest opening fixture of this new French Ligue 1 season on Friday night as they prepare for the visit of last season's Ligue 1 title winners, PSG, when the two teams clash at the Stade Océane with Le Havre looking to avoid another tense relegation battle this time around, while PSG will be intent upon claiming another domestic top flight title this term.

Le Havre narrowly avoided being dragged into the relegation play-off spot at the end of last season as the hosts finished three points above third from bottom finishers, Metz, although Le Havre did very little to boost their chances of survival after producing a string of disappointing results.

Indeed, since the end of January through to the end of the campaign, Le Havre managed to capture just two victories in the space of 16 league matches, which came in the form of wins against Toulouse and Strasbourg but also included slipping to no fewer than 10 defeats in the process.

There is a glimmer of hope though for Le Havre ahead of this upcoming encounter with PSG and that is that six of Le Havre's seven wins last season were achieved on home soil at their Stade Océane and this gives the hosts a slim chance here.

PSG once again dominated the French top flight season last term as the Paris based outfit romped to another Ligue 1 title, winning by a nine-point margin over runners-up, Monaco, along with being handed just two defeats throughout what was a triumphant campaign.

The visitors are expected to be the team to beat once again this season under manager Luis Enrique especially away from home as PSG went unbeaten on their travels throughout the whole of the Ligue 1 season, picking up 13 wins and four draws along the way.

Both of PSG's two defeats were inflicted upon the French giants on home soil at their Parc des Princes by the likes of Nice and Toulouse and this will give Le Havre something to strive for especially as they hold home advantage at the Stade Océane on Friday night.

PSG have produced some questionable results though in recent times as the visitors have managed to capture just three wins in their last nine matches in all competitions which saw Luis Enrique's side pick up wins against Nice and Metz in Ligue 1 along with a victory over Lyon in the Coupe de France, but Le Havre held them to a 3-3 draw at the Parc des Princes towards the end of last season.
