Brest vs Lyon Preview

It was not a successful return to action in the French top flight for Saturday's hosts last weekend as Brest were dealt a disappointing 2-0 defeat away from home at Angers which also became a fifth defeat in seven games overall for the hosts in Ligue 1, so Eric Roy's side will be keen to return to winning ways this weekend.

Lyon returned to winning ways upon their return to Ligue 1 action last weekend as they registered a 1-0 home win against Montpellier which saw the visitors bounce back from a loss in their final game of 2024 which came in the form of a 3-1 defeat away from home at PSG.

The 2-0 defeat away from home at Angers has resulted in Brest dropping down the French top flight standings to 12th place and having slipped to no fewer than five losses within their last seven matches overall in Ligue 1, the prospects of a home win here this Saturday against Lyon do not look particularly encouraging.

There is a glimmer of hope though for Saturday's hosts as Eric Roy's side have also captured wins on home soil at their Stade Francis-Le Blé in between the losses with victories gained over Strasbourg 3-1 and Nantes 4-1, while four of their five recent losses have actually been away from home.

Lyon bounced back from a 3-1 loss to PSG just before the Christmas break by recording their first win in 2025 against Montpellier with a 1-0 home win at their Groupama Stadium which will give the visitors a timely boost ahead of this Saturday's trip to the Stade Francis-Le Blé.

After producing a rather indifferent start to this Ligue 1 season as Lyon collected just the single win from their opening five games overall along with being dealt three defeats in the process, Lyon have staged an impressive comeback as Pierre Sage's side have suffered just one further loss in their subsequent 11 matches overall.

Within this impressive turnaround of form and accompanying results, Lyon have also collected no fewer than seven wins within this period, three of which were achieved away from home with victories on the road at Toulouse 2-1, Le Havre 4-0 and a 3-0 win at Angers, so the visitors will be confident of their chances this Saturday.

In addition, goals could also feature in this upcoming clash as six out of Lyon's last 10 outings on the road have produced three goals or more as well.
