Tottenham vs Qarabag Preview

Tottenham will go in search of a third win in all competitions on Thursday night when they play host to Azerbaijan outfit Qarabag at their Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the back of a 3-1 home win against Brentford in the Premier League last weekend, while Qarabag also collected all three points when they inflicted a heavy 4-0 win against Neftchi Baku in their domestic Premyer Liqa last Friday night.

Following disappointing back-to-back defeats to the likes of Newcastle United 2-1 and their north London rivals Arsenal 1-0, Tottenham managed to claw back dome dignity in the League Cup when they came from 1-0 behind to Championship side Coventry City to win the tie 2-1, followed by last weekend's 3-1 home win against Brentford in the Premier League.

The north London hosts have produced a mixed start to the new Premier League campaign as Spurs have registered two wins, a draw but have also slipped to two defeats as well; an earlier 4-0 romp at home against Everton was followed by the two aforementioned defeats to Newcastle United and Arsenal, but on home soil at their Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs have won six of their last 10 games in all competitions.

In addition, on the Europa League front, Tottenham have won their last six home ties on the trot, while five of their last 10 home ties have also resulted in Over 3 goals being scored.

Qarabag therefore face the possible daunting task of a trip to north London on Thursday night despite the visitors winning their last three games on the trot which have seen Qarabag secure victories over Zira 3-1, Sebail 2-1 and the aforementioned Neftchi Baku result where they ran out comfortable winners 4-0.

The Azerbaijan visitors had previously participated in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League where they accounted for the likes of Lincoln Red Imps 7-0 on aggregate and then Ludogorets 8-4 on aggregate after extra-time, but then fell at the final hurdle, losing 5-0 on aggregate to Dinamo Zagreb in the play-off stage.

However, Qarabag have now won 10 out of their last 14 games in all competitions and manager Qurban Qurbanov will be hoping his side can create a few chances and score against their more illustrious opposition here on Thursday night and make things uncomfortable for Ange Postecoglou's side - but having won just twice in their last eight Europa League ties, the visitors look to be up against it here.

These two teams have met before in the Europa League back in 2015 when Tottenham registered a 4-1 win on aggregate over two legs and the hosts look the more likely here as well.
