Premier League, played Sunday, October 29th, 2023
Here is our Man Utd v Man City tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to score in this game, over 2.5 goals, and a Man City away win. Our confidence in this tip was high relative to other tips.
The first Manchester derby of this new Premier League season will unfold at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon in what is expected to be an emotionally charged atmosphere after England and United legend, Bobby Charlton, passed away recently and with the hosts looking to capture a third league win on the trot while their ‘noisy neighbours' will be looking to post back-to-back wins following last weekend's home win against Brighton.
Manchester United have produced a somewhat mixed start to this new English top flight season as the Red Devils have registered five wins but they have also slipped to four defeats already, whilst not bothering with draws so far this season.
Victories against Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Burnley, Brentford and Sheffield United, the latter two wins being on the trot, have helped Manchester United up into the top half of the league table where they occupy eighth place ahead of this famous local derby.
Interestingly, all five of these wins were achieved against teams sitting in the lower half of the Premier League table while three of the four defeats to Tottenham, Arsenal, Brighton and Crystal Palace have been against teams sitting in the top seven of the table, so this is an interesting statistic in itself.
Manchester City managed to bounce back from two straight defeats on the trot in the Premier League last weekend when they edge the three points with a 2-1 home win against Brighton, so the visitors will also head into this upcoming local derby on the back of a welcome win.
City had previously produced a storming start to this new top flight campaign as the title holders had racked up six wins on the trot which saw Pep Guardiola's side fly out of the blocks but recent losses to Wolves and Arsenal, both of which were away from home, have slowed down City's early momentum.
Goals have also featured as five of Manchester City's nine league games to date have resulted with both teams scoring, while six of Manchester City's last 10 away games have also seen both teams hit the back of the net as well.
Considering this is a local derby along with City having lost their last two away games on the trot, the goals market appeals here and in particular, the option of both teams scoring.
Manchester United v Manchester City Verdict
Previous meetings between these two Manchester clubs have certainly produced lively and entertaining spectacles where goals have fairly flowed with the last four meetings bringing a staggering total of 20 goals overall, while both teams have also scored in each of these last four meetings as well.
The form book generally gets tossed out of the proverbial window here but goals for both sides looks likely.
Therefore, our main bet will be Both Teams To Score Yes @ 1.70
Other side bets worth considering:
Man City win & Both Teams To Score Yes @ 3.25
Correct score: Manchester City 2-1 @ 9.00
