Fulham continued their impressive run of results in the English top flight last weekend when The Cottagers held the league leaders Liverpool to a 2-2 draw away from home at Anfield which in turn has helped lift the London club up into eighth place and just three points behind fifth placed Manchester City.

Southampton on the other hand were powerless to avoid another defeat in the Premier League last Sunday as The Saints were dealt a heavy 5-0 loss at home to Tottenham which became a fifth loss in six games for the south coast club, and resulted in the sacking of former coach, Russell Martin.

Fulham have picked up impressive points by way of draws with Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool recently along with recording a 3-1 home win against Brighton and these results have lifted The Cottagers within striking distance of the top five places in the table and possible European involvement for next season.

The London hosts look a far more compact and resilient outfit under manager Marco Silva and this is evident when looking at results overall so far this season as The Cottagers have suffered just four defeats within their 16 matches played to date.

In addition, four of Fulham's six wins so far this term have been achieved at Craven Cottage with victories against Leicester City, Newcastle United, Brentford and Brighton.

Southampton parted ways with former coach Russell Martin following a 5-0 humiliation at home to Tottenham last Sunday and Simon Rusk has taken over at the helm of the south coast club who now find themselves a significant nine points adrift of safety heading into the busy festive season.

The visitors have lost five of their last six matches in the Premier League as Saints have been powerless to prevent previous defeats at the hands of Wolves, Liverpool, Chelsea, Aston Villa and the aforementioned Tottenham.

The Saints have managed to pick up just the single win so far in what has been a disastrous return to the English top flight, that being a 1-0 home win against Everton, but sliding to no fewer than 13 defeats in their total of 16 matches played so far in this campaign.

To make matters worse, Southampton have yet to collect an away win so far this season having drawn once but lost seven of their eight outings to date which has seen the visitors pick up just one point from the last 24 on offer on the road which does not bode well for this upcoming trip to face in-form Fulham.
