Monday night wraps up another weekend's action in the Premier League and last but not least, Chelsea and Newcastle United do battle at Stamford Bridge with both teams looking to improve their respective ailing fortunes as financially lucrative top half finishes in this season's Premier League table are seemingly the only thing left for both teams to play for now.

Chelsea occupy a dismal 11th place in the English top flight table but perhaps the green shoots of a recovery are just showing as The Blues bring a three-match unbeaten run into this Monday night clash with The Magpies following a 3-1 win away from home at Crystal Palace along with points gained in draws with Manchester City and Brentford, all three of which were all away from home.

Victories against Brighton, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Fulham should give the hosts a confidence boost.

Following a miserable sequence of four defeats on the trot in the Premier League which saw Newcastle United slump to losses against Luton Town, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Manchester City, Newcastle United have staged something of a revival in recent times as The Magpies have lost just one further game in their subsequent six matches overall.

That loss came in the shape of a heavy 4-1 loss away from home at Arsenal but Eddie Howe's side have made up for that slip-up by recording wins against Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Wolves in recent times which has helped lift the north-east visitors up into eighth place in the Premier League table.

However, despite this flurry of wins, Newcastle United still trail fifth placed Tottenham by a significant 10-point margin and it's looking increasingly like they will need a few favours from other teams and go on a winning spree themselves if they're to get anywhere near even a Europa Conference League spot this season.

Results away from home continue to be a major concern for Eddie Howe's side though as Newcastle have managed to capture just two wins from their last 10 outings on the road, slipping to six defeats in the process.
