Brentford vs Sheffield United Preview

Brentford gained a creditable point in the Premier League last weekend when they held high-flying Aston Villa to a 3-3 draw at Villa Park but the upcoming hosts have now failed to win any of their previous nine games overall in the top flight, while Sheffield United were also involved in a high-scoring draw when they held a resurgent Chelsea outfit to a 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane.

Brentford's winless sequence in the past few months has resulted in The Bees dropping down the table to 15th place where Thomas Frank's side hold a four-point cushion over third from bottom club Luton Town but things can change very quickly at this time of the season and a win here and there can make all the difference between a relegation battle and safety.

Goals have also featured in this winless run of Brentford's as six of The Bees' last 10 games overall in the top flight have resulted in Over 2.5 goals and as the London club have managed to pick up just two wins from their previous 18 matches overall, the goals market certainly appeals over the more risky looking straight win markets for this clash, especially as Brentford have also slipped to 12 defeats within this period as well.

Sheffield United have also experienced a tough sequence of results lately in the Premier League as The Blades have failed to win any of their last seven games overall, slipping to four defeats which have come in the form of losses to Brighton, Wolves, Arsenal and Liverpool, while six of these last seven games have also produced three goals or more as well.

The Yorkshire club still remain bottom of the Premier League table where they trail fourth from bottom Nottingham Forest by a nine-point margin and although Chris Wilder's side are not giving up and giving their all in this relegation battle, nevertheless, Sheffield United do look destined for the drop this season.

The visitors have managed to claim just two wins from their previous 20 matches overall in the Premier League, one of which was actually a 1-0 home win against their upcoming opponents Brentford in a 1-0 win at Bramall Lane in early December but it is worth noting that their third highest goalscorer of last season, Ivan Toney (20 goals), was serving a ban for betting at the time.

This Saturday though may be a very different story with Toney back in the fold and Sheffield United will have to score at least once if they are to stand any chance of getting something out of this encounter.
