League One, played Tuesday, September 24th, 2024
Here is our Wigan v Stevenage tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a Wigan home win. Our confidence in this tip was moderate relative to other tips.
Following two away games on the trot, Wigan Athletic will no doubt be keen to return to the home surroundings of their Brick Community Stadium for Tuesday night's League One clash against Stevenage with the hosts looking to extend their unbeaten run to three games, while Stevenage will be eager to avoid a second defeat on the trot after going down 2-0 away from home at Exeter City on the weekend.
Wigan Athletic have produced a mixed bag of results in the early stages of this season's League One campaign as The Latics have picked up two wins, a draw but have also already slipped to three defeats within their opening six games of the new term.
Victories gained over Crawley Town 1-0 at home and Bristol Rovers 4-1 away from home have been outweighed by suffering defeats at the hands of Charlton Athletic 1-0, Reading 2-0 and Birmingham City 2-1 respectively, so the hosts have not yet been entirely convincing so far this season.
The goals market appeals though as there have been a lack of goals so far this season where Wigan Athletic's games have been concerned with four of their opening six games resulting in Under 2.5 goals (67%), along with no fewer than nine of Wigan's last 10 home games also producing two goals or less (90%).
Stevenage slipped to a third defeat in their opening six games of this new League One season after being handed a 2-0 loss on the road at Exeter City on the weekend as the visitors were unable to replicate their previously impressive 3-0 home win against high-flying Barnsley last time out.
Stevenage have also collected two wins so far this term which consisted of wins against Shrewsbury Town 1-0 and the aforementioned 3-0 win against Barnsley but it should be noted that both of their two wins to date have been achieved on home soil at their Lamex Stadium.
However, defeats handed out to Stevenage in the shape of losses at the hands of Huddersfield Town, Lincoln City and Exeter City suggest Alex Revell's side are likely to have their work cut out if they are to breach their hosts Wigan Athletic here on Tuesday night, especially as Stevenage have now failed to win any of their previous 11 outings on the road in the English third flight.
Seven of these previous 11 away games have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals being scored (64%), while Stevenage have also failed to score on six occasions as well.
Wigan Athletic v Stevenage Verdict
Wigan Athletic have suffered just one defeat in their last nine home games, all of which resulted in Under 2.5 goals so a low-scoring win for Wigan Athletic looks to be on the cards here.
Therefore, our main bet will be Under 2.5 goals @ 1.70
Other side bets worth considering:
Wigan Athletic win @ 2.40
Correct Score: Wigan Athletic 1-0 @ 7.50
