League One, played Saturday, May 4th, 2024
Here is our Oxford Utd v Peterborough tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a Oxford Utd home win. Our confidence in this tip was low relative to other tips.
Oxford United ended the final day of the League One season on a positive note as The U's registered a 2-1 win away from home at Exeter City which also helped secure Oxford's place in the play-offs, while Peterborough United had already booked their place as The Posh finished seven points above their upcoming hosts and finished up with a 3-3 draw at home against fellow high-flyers, Bolton Wanderers.
Following a rather lean period of results in the English third tier which produced just the single victory for Oxford United from the end of January through to early March which came in the form of a 4-2 home win against Wigan Athletic but also included slipping to four defeats as well, The U's finished the regular season in promising form.
The U's were handed just two further defeats out of their subsequent 10 matches overall in League One which were losses at the hands of Bolton Wanderers 5-0 away from home and a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Lincoln City but Des Buckingham's side also picked up six wins on the final straight of the season including home wins against Cheltenham Town, Fleetwood United and a 5-0 thrashing of their upcoming visitors, Peterborough United.
Onto Peterborough United and The Posh had already confirmed their place in the play-offs in League One before the final day of the season which was largely thanks to an impressive five-match winning streak from the end of February through to mid-March which produced important victories against the likes of Cambridge United, Exeter City, Northampton Town, Burton Albion and Stevenage respectively.
Despite being handed four defeats within their final nine games of the season which included defeats on the road at Oxford United and Cheltenham Town, Peterborough United also picked up four important wins over Leyton Orient, Port Vale, Fleetwood Town and Bristol Rovers to cement their top six finish in the division.
The bigger picture shows Peterborough United have been dealt just these four defeats out of their last 14 league matches overall and having also picked up nine wins in the process, Darren Ferguson's side still represent a major threat to Oxford United when the two teams face off at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday night.
Oxford United v Peterborough United Verdict
Oxford United have lost just twice in their last 10 home games whilst picking up four wins and being involved in four draws as well, while Peterborough United have picked up five wins out of their last 10 outings on the road but The Posh have also slipped to four defeats as well.
Oxford United's recent 5-0 victory over Peterborough United may still be fresh in The Posh's minds and could psychologically play a part in this 1st leg too.
Therefore, our main bet will be Oxford United win @ 2.25
Other side bets worth considering:
Oxford Utd win & Under 3.5 goals @ 3.75
Correct Score: Oxford United 2-0 @ 15.00
