Watford vs QPR Preview

Watford will hold home advantage once again at Vicarage Road for Saturday lunchtime's clash with Championship strugglers, QPR, with the hosts looking to extend their unbeaten run to four games following Tuesday night's 1-0 home win against Bristol City.

QPR finally brought an end to their previously dismal 12-match winless run in the Championship with a 2-0 win away from home at Cardiff City in midweek but The R's still occupy a place in the relegation zone despite that welcome win.

Watford had earlier stormed out of the starting blocks in this season's Championship campaign as The Hornets collected three wins on the trot at the start of the new term by recording victories over the likes of Millwall, Stoke City and Derby County respectively.

The hosts then produced a mixed bag of results in the English second tier which consisted of two wins, a draw but also slipping to five defeats within their subsequent eight league matches overall.

However, Tom Cleverley's side have managed to bounce back in impressive fashion as Watford have been handed just one further defeat in their last six games whilst also collecting four wins in the process which includes welcome wins against Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford United and Bristol City which in turn have helped lift The Hornets into the play-off pack.

QPR finally returned to winning ways on Wednesday night when the London club registered a desperately needed 2-0 win on the road at Cardiff City which ended a 12-match barren spell for Martí Cifuentes's side.

However, six defeats within these previous 12 league matches suggest QPR are not out of the woods yet and indeed, The R's face a tough day at the office at Vicarage Road on Saturday lunchtime as they prepare to face an in-form and solid looking Watford outfit.

Three of QPR's six defeats were inflicted upon The R's on their travels as the visitors slipped up at Blackburn Rovers, Derby County and Leeds United respectively, and having picked up just a meagre total of five wins within their previous 23 games overall in the Championship, QPR look to have their work cut out at Vicarage Road.

In addition, QPR have registered just one win from their last six outings on the road in the Championship which also includes being handed three defeats within this period as well, while goals could a little thin on the ground on Saturday as each of these last six away games have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals.

Watford have won each of the last two meetings on the trot against QPR where they registered 2-1 and 4-0 wins respectively and although this may be a low-scoring affair, Watford look the more likely here for the three points.
