Here is our Blackburn v Sheffield Wednesday tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a Blackburn home win. Our confidence in this tip was moderate relative to other tips.
Blackburn Rovers produced one of the biggest shock results in this season's Championship last weekend when the Lancashire club registered an impressive and desperately needed 1-0 win away from home at automatic promotion chasing Leeds United at Elland Road and Blackburn will be looking for more of the same this Sunday lunchtime when they return to Ewood Park to take on another Yorkshire club, relegation strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.
The appointment of former Birmingham City manager, John Eustace, has at least helped Blackburn stem the previous bleeding as Rovers have turned defeats into draws at least and have picked up some useful points along with the occasional wins which have seen the hosts register victories against Stoke City, Sunderland and Leeds United.
Indeed, since Eustace's arrival, Blackburn Rovers have lost just four of their subsequent 14 games in the Championship and having picked up three wins and involved in no fewer than seven draws, the Lancashire club have lifted themselves away from immediate danger where they occupy 17th place in the table and hold a five-point cushion over the relegation zone.
The fact remains though that Blackburn Rovers have managed to win just once in their previous 10 games at Ewood Park.
Sheffield Wednesday extended their stubborn looking unbeaten run in the Championship to three games last Saturday with a 1-1 draw at home with Stoke City and this result followed a 2-0 win away from home at QPR along with a point earned in a 2-2 draw at home with Norwich City, so The Owls will also be looking to get something from this upcoming clash on Sunday lunchtime.
Sheffield Wednesday had earlier posted an impressive four-match winning streak in the Championship which had seemed to indicate a revival from The Owls as they accounted for the likes of Millwall, Bristol City, Rotherham United and Plymouth Argyle respectively but subsequent defeats have thrust the visitors back into the relegation mire.
Defeats at the hands of Leeds United 2-0, Ipswich Town 6-0 and Middlesbrough 2-0 means Sheffield Wednesday are still fighting for their Championship lives and having picked up three wins from their last five outings on the road, this upcoming clash away from home at Blackburn Rovers may just suit Danny Rohl's side.
It should be noted though that Sheffield Wednesday have lost 15 of their 21 away games to date so far this season and this does not bode well for a trip to Ewood Park.
Blackburn Rovers v Sheffield Wednesday Verdict
Previous recent exchanges between Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday have gone in favour of the hosts as Blackburn have won two of the last three meetings along with a draw and that win against Leeds United might have just done the trick for Rovers.
Therefore, our main bet will be Blackburn Rovers win @ 2.00
Other side bets worth considering:
Blackburn Rovers win & Under 2.5 goals @ 4.75
Correct Score: Blackburn Rovers 2-0 @ 10.00
