Blackburn Rovers slumped to a third defeat on the trot and a sixth loss in nine games in the Championship last weekend when the Lancashire club were handed a 2-1 loss away from home at Bristol City which has now left John Eustace's side sitting outside of the play-off pack and in seventh place.

Preston NE meanwhile posted a second win on the trot with an impressive 2-1 home win against play-off candidates Middlesbrough at Deepdale which has lifted The Lilywhites up into a more respectable looking 14th place in the Championship table ahead of Friday night's all-Lancashire clash at Ewood Park.

Previous recent defeats at the hands of Oxford United and Coventry City have resulted in Blackburn Rovers dropping out of the play-off places in the Championship table but although the hosts have another opportunity to set the record straight at Ewood Park, this may be easier said than done.

Having managed to capture just one win from their previous nine games overall which came in the form of a 3-0 home win against Portsmouth, but also slipping to six defeats in the process, Rovers look far from a guaranteed three points this Friday.

Three of these six defeats have been incurred on home soil including earlier losses to Hull City and arch-rivals, Burnley.

Preston NE will make the relatively short trip to Ewood Park on Friday night with the visitors looking to make it three league wins on the trot having picked up back-to-back wins against the likes of Watford and Middlesbrough, and given Blackburn Rovers' poor results of late in the Championship, the visitors may well fancy their chances here!

Recent results overall in the English top flight have been solid if not a little stubborn but at least manager Paul Heckingbottom has made his side a tough side to beat as the visitors have suffered just two losses in their last 14 matches overall while collecting five wins in the process.

However, Preston NE have also been involved in no fewer than seven stalemates within these previous 14 games which throws some doubt as to whether Heckingbottom's side possess the necessary attacking edge to grab all three points here on Friday night.

The goals market looks an appealing prospect though as seven out of Preston NE's last 10 matches overall have resulted in both teams scoring and with this upcoming fixture being a local derby along with both sides looking to further their ambitions of a possible play-off spot, goals at both ends of the pict look likely here on Friday night.
