USA vs Bolivia Preview

Newly crowned CONCACAF Nations League champions USA will take on Bolivia in Group C as the States will enjoy home ground advantage not only in this edition of the Copa America tournament but will also co-host the 2026 World cup with Canada as well, and expectations are high for USA to emerge from Group C and go deep into the knockout rounds, while Bolivia are still trying to find their feet after a disastrous start to their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying campaign.

USA registered recent wins in the Nations League against Jamaica 3-1 in extra-time in the semi-finals before inflicting another defeat upon their arch-rivals Mexico 2-0 in the final but results overall in recent times suggest this group may not be plain sailing for Gregg Berhalter's side.

Indeed, of USA's last 10 internationals overall they have captured five wins, suffered four defeats and drawn once and immediately after securing the Nations League title, USA were comprehensively beaten 5-1 by Colombia but drew 1-1 with Brazil in subsequent international friendlies.

Bolivia may well be relieved for the distraction of this Copa America tournament and the chance to re-group under relatively new national coach, Antonio Carlos Zago, after producing a disastrous start to their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying campaign.

Bolivia currently sit second from bottom in the South American section table with just three points under their belts and having lost their opening four qualifiers on the trot to the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Paraguay, former coach Gustavo Costas was sacked on the back of this poor start.

A solid 2-0 home win in the high altitude of La Paz against Peru finally got Bolivia off the mark but a subsequent heavy 3-0 loss away from home at the hands of Uruguay will serve as a warning shot across the bows as they will once again lock horns with Uruguay in Group C of this Copa America tournament.

The bigger picture shows Bolivia have managed to collect just two wins out of their last 14 internationals in all competitions which also includes being dealt no fewer than 11 defeats within this period as well, so Bolivia's prospects in this group do not look very positive at all.

In addition, Bolivia have failed to score in seven of these previous 14 games and this could have a bearing on the outcome of this fixture with USA.
