Costa Rica were dealt a heavy 3-0 loss to Colombia on matchday 2 in the Copa America which has left Gustavo Alfaro's side sitting in third place in the Group D table and three points adrift of second placed Brazil ahead of this final group game against Paraguay who slipped to a second defeat on the trot in the group following a heavy 4-1 loss at the hands of Brazil, so both teams head into this final game on the back of disappointing results.

Costa Rica had previously started their Group D campaign in this Copa America tournament in impressive fashion as they managed to hold Brazil to a 0-0 draw on matchday 1 but a subsequent poor showing against Colombia culminated in a heavy 3-0 defeat which has left them in a ‘must win' situation against Paraguay on matchday 3.

Recent results overall though have been fairly positive where Costa Rica have been concerned as Gustavo Alfaro's side have lost just twice in their last eight internationals in all competitions, which came in the form of losses to Argentina and Colombia respectively.

In their opening six games of World Cup qualifying, Paraguay have managed to register just one win for their troubles which was achieved in a 1-0 win against Bolivia but they have also slipped to three defeats within these six group games with losses incurred against Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia respectively.

The bigger picture shows Paraguay have managed to muster just three wins in their last 16 internationals in all competitions which have been collected against the likes of Nicaragua, Bolivia and Panama but they have also been handed no fewer than nine defeats within this period as well.

It's also worth mentioning that goals have also been in short supply as 12 of Paraguay's last 16 matches overall have resulted in Under 2.5 goals, so another low-scoring affair may unfold here at the Q2 Stadium.
