Qatar vs Honduras Preview

The second round of group games in the CONCACAF Gold Cup will be played this week and Thursday evening features this upcoming clash between Qatar and Honduras in Group B with both teams being on the losing side in their respective opening group games, so both nations will be keen to get off the mark with a positive result here.

Qatar began their Gold Cup campaign in disappointing fashion as they were dealt a 2-1 defeat by Haiti despite the Middle Eastern side taking the lead after 20 minutes through Yusuf Abdurisag. Haiti levelled the scores through a penalty on the stroke of half-time and then Frantzdy Pierrot broke Qatar's hearts with a late, late winner in injury time.

Qatar must therefore dust themselves down and try and replicate the sort of form which saw them grab a 2-1 win against Jamaica in a warm-up friendly international just before the Gold Cup started, while previous meetings against Honduras have also produced encouraging results for Carlos Queiroz's side.

Qatar have won each of the previous two meetings with Honduras winning 1-0 and 2-0 respectively, while goals may be in short supply in this upcoming clash as five of Qatar's last 10 matches have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals.

Honduras also started their Gold Cup group campaign tasting defeat but for them it was far more comprehensive as Diego Vasquez's side were handed a heavy 4-0 rout by Mexico in their Group B opener which also became their third loss on the trot in all competitions.

Honduras had previously slipped to back-to-back defeats to Canada and Venezuela in the Nations League and an international friendly respectively, and the bigger picture also doesn't paint a very encouraging outlook as Honduras have managed to collect just four wins from their previous 28 matches across all competitions.

Results away from home have also been pretty poor in recent times for Honduras who have managed to capture just two victories on the road in their last 17 attempts on the road, losing 11 of these games and failing to score in nine of these 17 games as well.

Qatar v Honduras Verdict

Qatar look to possibly hold the upper hand over Honduras heading into this Thursday night's clash at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona but both sides have produced inconsistent and disappointing results in recent times and neither look nailed on favourites to win this match, if indeed there is even a winner!

A lack of confidence and quality from both sides may contribute to a low-scoring affair which may even end up with the scores all square in a draw.
