World Cup Qualifying, played Friday, November 17th, 2023
Here is our Chile v Paraguay tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a tie. Our confidence in this pick was low relative to other picks.
Chile and Paraguay find themselves amongst the nations jostling for a top six finish in the CONMEBOL section of the World Cup qualifiers along with Ecuador, and the aforementioned sides will lock horns at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano for Thursday night's clash with both teams seeking to gain an advantage in the race for a place in the next World Cup to be held in USA, Canada and Mexico.
Both Chile and Paraguay are locked on four points apiece ahead of Thursday's encounter and there appears to be little to choose between the two nations as both sides have gained one win, a draw but two defeats to date in these South American qualifiers.
An opening heavy 3-1 defeat away from home at Uruguay saw Chile off to a disappointing start but although Eduardo Berizzo's side gained a point in a 0-0 draw at home with Colombia and then picked up all three points with a solid 2-0 home win against Peru, the hosts slipped to a second defeat in the form of a 3-0 loss away at Venezuela.
However, despite slumping to three defeats towards the end of the previous World Cup qualifying phase, Chile have turned their home form around in recent times, picking up four wins in their last five home games in all competitions, which includes a 3-2 victory over Paraguay.
Paraguay find themselves in a very similar boat to that of their hosts ahead of Thursday's clash at the Estadio Monumental David Arellano as they too have picked up a win, draw but suffered two defeats so far in their opening four games of the CONMEBOL qualifying section.
A 0-0 draw at home with Peru at least saw Paraguay get off the mark in their opening game but subsequent back-to-back defeats to Venezuela and Argentina, both by 1-0 margins and both away from home were definite setbacks to Daniel Garnero's side and threatened to de-rail La Albirroja's plans for qualification.
However, Paraguay did manage to bounce back with a 1-0 home win against the bottom placed nation, Bolivia, on matchday 4 to lift them back up into the reckoning for a possible top six finish in the CONMEBOL table.
With just two wins from their last nine games overall though in all competitions, both of which were on home soil, the Paraguayans may be happy to settle for a point on the road on Thursday night.
Chile v Paraguay Verdict
The previous six meetings between Chile and Paraguay have resulted in three wins apiece so there's been little to choose between the two sides in previous exchanges.
However, neither side have exactly set the world on fire as yet in these qualifiers so a score-draw looks to be on the cards here.
Therefore, our main bet will be Both Teams To Score Yes @ 2.20
Other side bets worth considering:
Draw @ 3.25
Correct Score: 1-1 @ 6.50
