New England Revolution slipped to yet another defeat in the Eastern Conference last week as they were handed a heavy and disappointing 3-0 loss at home by Philadelphia Union, leaving the hosts in bottom spot with just seven points to their name, while New York City moved up into third place in the Eastern Conference ladder following a 2-1 local derby win over New York RB last week.

Having collected just two wins and a draw but also slipping to nine defeats within their opening 12 matches overall, New England sit rock bottom of the Eastern Conference ladder and some 10 points adrift of the Finals Series play-off positions prior to what looks like being a very tough assignment against a confident and high-flying New York City outfit this weekend.

Rare wins against Charlotte 1-0 at home and a 1-0 win on the road at Chicago Fire have been the only highlights in what has otherwise been a very forgettable campaign to date for Caleb Porter's side who have managed to pick just these two wins from their last 14 matches overall in the MLS.

New York City continued their promising resurgence in the Eastern Conference with a 2-1 win against local rivals New York RB last weekend which not only became a sixth win in seven games overall for the visitors but also helped lift Nick Cushing's side up into third spot in the Conference ladder where they hold a useful looking six-point buffer over eighth placed Philadelphia Union.

After making a slow and sluggish start to this MLS season with just one win from their opening seven games overall and being handed four defeats in the process, New York City are now seemingly cruising to a potential place in the Finals Series thanks to wins against New England (at home), DC United, Charlotte, Toronto, Philadelphia Union and of course New York RB.

Since losing 1-0 away at Cincinnati towards the end of March, New York City have embarked upon a vastly improved sequence of results in the Eastern Conference which has seen the visitors lose just once in their subsequent nine games and collecting six wins within this period.

New York City will therefore be keen to further improve upon an ordinary looking record on the road which has brought the visitors just two wins in their previous 11 outings on their travels.
