Poland vs Scotland Preview

Poland will no doubt be desperate to produce a much better showing in this final game in Group 1 against Scotland when the two nations clash at the Stadion Narodowy in what has become a straight shoot-out to avoid automatic relegation from League A.

After producing a thoroughly underwhelming and disappointing campaign in the summer in the Euro 2024 finals culminating in two defeats and a draw, Poland had seemingly turned a corner in their opening game of this current edition of the Nations League as they recorded an impressive 3-2 win away from home against Scotland at Hampden Park.

However, the Poles' joy was short-lived as Michal Probierz's side have slumped to three defeats in their subsequent four games in Group 1 which consists of three defeats and a draw.

Losses to Portugal home and away in heavy 3-1 and 5-1 defeats respectively along with a 1-0 loss away from home at Croatia have done the damage for the hosts who have now managed to capture just one win within their previous eight games in all competitions whilst also slipping to five defeats in the process.

However, the goals market looks particularly inviting for this upcoming clash as no fewer than nine out of Poland's last 10 matches overall have resulted in both teams hitting the back of the net.

Scotland picked up their first win in this current Nations League when they registered a 1-0 victory at home against Croatia which also saw Steve Clarke's side draw level on points with relegation rivals Poland ahead of this tough looking but vitally important clash at the Stadion Narodowy on Monday night.

The Scots also failed to progress past the group stage in the recent Euro 2024 finals as they were handed two defeats and gained just a draw in their three games, and this poor sequence of form continued in the early stages of this Nations League campaign as well.

Indeed, Steve Clarke's side succumbed to defeats at the hands of Poland 3-2, Portugal 2-1 and Croatia 2-1 respectively which immediately placed Scotland on the back foot in terms of achieving a place in the quarter-finals but have also endangered Scotland's hopes of retaining their League A status as well.

Recent results have shown an improvement though as Scotland have managed to collect four points from their last two group games which came courtesy of a 0-0 draw at home with Portugal along with the aforementioned 1-0 victory over Croatia, while six of Scotland's last 10 fixtures have also resulted in both teams scoring.
