The opening game of a new season in the UEFA Nations League will feature this upcoming clash in League C Group 1 between hosts Azerbaijan and visitors Sweden as the two nations prepare to do battle at the Tofiq B?hramov adina Respublika stadionu in Baku with Azerbaijan looking to go one step better this time around after finishing runners-up, while Sweden suffered relegation from League B at the end of the previous campaign.

Azerbaijan have produced a mixed bag of results overall in all competitions as the hosts have registered five wins, two draws but also slipped to six defeats as well within their last 13 internationals, but four of their five wins have been achieved on home soil with victories gained over Jordan, Sweden (European Championship qualifier), Mongolia and Kazakhstan respectively.

After enduring a miserable period of results at home as Azerbaijan failed to win any of their home matches across a 15-game period (suffering 10 losses), the hosts have turned things around in recent times as Azerbaijan have been dealt just a further two defeats in their subsequent 10 games overall, whilst picking up six wins in the process.

The hosts have also produced mixed results at home though in the UEFA Nations League as they have posted just three wins in their last nine attempts on home soil.

Sweden will no doubt be keen to prove a point in this upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign as they have dropped down into League C after suffering relegation from League B/4 at the end of their last term in this competition, finishing up with just four points to their name and finishing bottom of a group containing Serbia, Norway and Slovenia.

Four defeats on the trot from June 2022 onwards with losses at the hands of Norway (home and away) and Serbia (home and away) did for Sweden in the Nations League but the Swedes have made improvements since then as they have been dealt just seven defeats within their subsequent 20 matches in all competitions.

Sweden have also collected 11 wins within these previous 20 games as well which will give them reason to feel upbeat about their chances of producing a positive result in Baku on Thursday evening although the visitors will need to improve upon previous results on the road overall, having managed to capture just three wins in their last 15 outings on the road.

Azerbaijan got the better of Sweden in a Euro qualifier back in November of last year with a 3-0 victory but Sweden had won all of the previous three meetings in 5-0, 3-0 and 1-0 wins respectively and we're backing them to come out on top again here.
