Sirius vs Norrkoping Preview

Sirius were handed a heavy 3-0 defeat away from home at fifth placed Hammarby last Sunday in the Swedish top flight but the hosts will return home to their Studenternas IP ground for this upcoming clash against lowly Norrkoping no doubt looking to set the record straight, while Norrkoping were also handed a heavy loss as they went down 4-0 at home to Varnamo.

At the start of this new Allsvenskan season it looked like Sirius were going to pick up where they left off as the hosts registered early back-to-back wins against Halmstad and Kalmar respectively to complement last season's run-in that consisted of winning seven of their final eight games of last term - but results since then have been disappointing for Christer Mattiasson's side.

Sirius have managed to capture just one further victory in their subsequent nine league matches thereafter, which came in the form of a creditable 3-1 win away from home at sixth placed AIK but also includes slipping to five defeats as well.

However, despite losing on home soil to Varnamo and Hacken so far this season, these have been Sirius's only defeats out of their previous nine home games at their Studenternas IP ground and includes five victories as well, one of them being a solid 2-0 home win against Norrkoping towards the end of the last campaign.

Norrkoping currently occupy third from bottom place in the Swedish top flight table and therefore the relegation play-off spot with only goal difference saving the visitors from dropping down into the automatic relegation zone.

A brief flurry of success earlier in this Allsvenskan campaign produced three wins and a draw for Andreas Alm's side as Norrkoping captured important wins against GAIS, Elfsborg and Hacken along with a point in a draw with IFK Goteborg, but it is worth mentioning that the former two wins of these three aforementioned victories were achieved on home soil at their PlatinumCars Arena.

Results have taken something of a nose-dive since though for the visitors in subsequent weeks as they have slumped to four defeats within their last five games, suffering losses at the hands of AIK, Hammarby, Brommapojkarna and Varnamo respectively, while results away from home have also been pretty poor.

The visitors have managed to register just one win from their last 11 outings on the road along with being dealt seven losses into the bargain and this does not bode well for this upcoming trip to face Sirius on Saturday afternoon.
