Leganes vs Valencia Preview

Leganes gained another useful point in the Spanish top flight last weekend with a 1-1 draw away from home at Rayo Vallecano, while Valencia were dealt a heavy 3-0 loss away from home at Real Sociedad and the visitors face another tricky road trip on Friday night to the Estadio Municipal de Butarque to take on Leganes.

It's been four years since Leganes last appeared in the Spanish top flight and an early season 2-1 home win against Las Palmas seemed to get the hosts off to a good start in this new La Liga campaign but subsequent results have been a frustrating experience for the home side.

Indeed, Leganes have failed to win any of their subsequent six league matches which consist of three draws but also three defeats as well; points picked up in draws with Real Valladolid, Getafe and Rayo Vallecano have been overshadowed by losses at the hands of Mallorca, Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao respectively.

Interestingly, four of Leganes' eight games so far this season have resulted in only one team scoring and overall in the domestic top flight, Leganes have lost only three out of their previous 13 league matches as well, while six of Leganes' last 10 home games in the Spanish top flight have also seen only one team hit the back of the net.

Valencia find themselves two league places and two points below their 16th placed hosts Leganes ahead of Friday night's encounter at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque as the visitors currently occupy a place in the bottom three of the La Liga table in 18th place following a disappointing 3-0 loss away from home at Real Sociedad.

The visitors have managed to capture just the single win from their opening eight games overall so far this season and although they have also picked up points in draws with Villarreal and Osasuna, these were both achieved on home soil at their Estadio de Mestalla, but they have also slipped to five defeats as well.

Losses to Barcelona, Celta Vigo, Athletic Bilbao, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad have dumped Valencia in early relegation trouble down near the foot of the La Liga table and the bigger picture doesn't hold much promise for Ruben Baraja's side either.

Indeed, Valencia have collected just the single win within their previous 15 games in the domestic top flight whilst also being handed no fewer than 10 defeats in the process as well; interestingly, eight of these previous 15 games have also resulted in only one team hitting the back of the net as well.

Given Valencia's poor record away from home in La Liga and the prospect of both teams scoring looking fairly low, a 1-0 home win for Leganes looks to be on the cards here.
