Both Las Palmas and Sevilla will be desperate to improve upon last season's respective fortunes as both teams finished in the lower half of the La Liga standings at the end of last season; Las Palmas finished in 16th place while Sevilla ended up in 14th place and just a point separated the two clubs come the end of the Spanish top flight campaign.

Despite failing to win any of their final 14 league matches of last season's La Liga campaign, Las Palmas still managed to avoid the dreaded drop down to La Liga 2 as the hosts still finished a healthy seven points above third from bottom Cadiz and the relegation zone.

Sevilla also experienced a period of turbulence in the final weeks of last season's La Liga campaign as the visitors lost their final four games on the trot, suffering losses to the likes of Villarreal, Cadiz, Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona respectively, which resulted with Sevilla finishing up the season in a disappointing 14th place in the standings.

New manager Garcia Pimienta has since taken over the reins at Sevilla and he will be tasked with making his new side more competitive and tougher to beat, especially away from home where they were dealt nine defeats within their 19 away games last term.

Sevilla also managed to capture just four wins on their travels throughout last season's campaign which included victories at Granada, Rayo Vallecano and Getafe, but together with a 2-0 win last time they visited the Estadio de Gran Canaria to take on Las Palmas, Sevilla may well fancy their chances of collecting another three points here in this opening game of the season.

Prior to ending their season with four defeats on the trot, Sevilla had put together a promising looking five-game unbeaten run which consisted of four wins and a draw.
