An encouraging finish to the end of Celta Vigo's campaign in last season's La Liga saw Celta Vigo end up with a three-match unbeaten sequence which helped lift the hosts up into 13th place in the final standings, while Alaves finished their season in a mid-table position as they ended up in 10th place in the La Liga table.

Prior to Alaves' late spurt of form towards the end of last season, the visitors had been struggling for results in the domestic top flight as they had picked up just one win in their preceding nine league matches, five of which ended in defeats for the away side.

Defeats to Barcelona, Osasuna, Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad and Granada suggest this upcoming trip to take on Celta Vigo could at least hang in the balance, if not favour the hosts here on Friday night.
