Cadiz will play host to La Liga newcomers, Alaves, in their opening home game of this new Spanish top flight season at their Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla with the hosts looking to make a winning start to their campaign.

However, Cadiz may not be quite as comfortable in this home fixture as many people may think as the hosts managed to capture just three wins out of their last 10 matches of last season, picking up wins against Valencia, Real Valladolid and Celta Vigo, all of whom resided in the lower half of the La Liga table along with Cadiz themselves.

Cadiz were also handed five defeats in the process within these last 10 league games, two of which were at home with losses incurred against Real Madrid and Osasuna respectively, but although Cadiz suffered a worrying four-match winless run from mid-March through to towards the end of April (which included three defeats on the trot), the hosts did manage to stage a recovery in the final few games at home.

Three wins on the trot on home soil resulted in Cadiz being lifted up into 14th place and away from the relegation zone although only two points separated Cadiz from the bottom three by the end of the season.

Alaves joined La Liga 2 champions, Granada, and the runners-up, Las Palmas, back up into the Spanish top flight for this season after they managed to negotiate a tense two-legged play-off final with Levante and in the end Alaves needed extra-time in order to secure their place in La Liga with a narrow 1-0 win.

The visitors have produced a fairly steady pre-season prior to the start of this tough looking campaign as they registered wins against Racing Santander, Tenerife and Osasuna which outweighed losses to Valencia and Burgos, all of which were away from home.

Indeed, the bigger picture shows Alaves have lost just three of their last 12 outings on the road in all competitions while interestingly, eight of these 12 matches also resulted in only one team scoring and this looks a decent option in what is expected to be a tight and low-scoring encounter at the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla on Monday evening.

The previous meeting between these two clubs resulted in a 1-0 win away from home for Cadiz back in May of last year which contributed to Alaves' relegation from La Liga but the last two encounters have also seen only one team score, so this option in the goals market perhaps looks the most likely especially as six of the last 10 meetings have also ended in draws.
