Here is our St Mirren v Hibernian tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a Hibernian away win. Our confidence in this pick was low relative to other picks.
St Mirren will play host to Hibernian at The SMISA Stadium on Sunday afternoon with the hosts coming into this opening game of the new Scottish Premiership season having gained a creditable 0-0 draw away from home at Icelandic outfit Valur in the 1st leg of the UEFA Conference League, while Hibernian recorded a resounding 4-0 victory at home against Peterhead in the group stage of the Scottish League Cup.
At the time of writing, St Mirren have yet to play the 2nd leg of their Conference League tie with Valur but having put together a solid and stubborn looking five-game unbeaten sequence at the start of this new campaign, The Saints look like being tough opponents for Hibernian this Sunday.
Since being beaten 3-2 away from home at Celtic amidst a poor finish to last season's Premiership campaign which culminated in picking up just one win from their final nine league matches, St Mirren have picked up back-to-back pre-season wins against Dunfermline Athletic and Greenock Morton in 1-0 and 2-0 wins respectively.
Three subsequent draws on the trot have seen St Mirren involved in stalemates with Fleetwood Town and Carlisle United along with the 1st leg 0-0 draw away from home at Valur.
Hibernian produced a somewhat disappointing campaign in last season's Scottish Premiership as the visitors could only muster a seventh place finish at the end of the regular season but although they dropped down into the Relegation Round group after the division split into two, Hibs finished in second place behind the Relegation Round leaders, Aberdeen.
Hibs finished the season with a 3-0 home win against Motherwell followed by picking up a point in a 1-1 draw away from home at relegated Livingston, and these results seem to have spurred David Gray's men onto better results at the start of this new season as the visitors have lost just twice in their opening eight games of the new term.
Despite being dealt a disappointing 1-0 loss away from home at Kelty Hearts in the group stage of the Scottish League Cup, Hibernian have also collected wins in their other three games which have come in the shape of victories over the likes of Elgin City, Queen's Park and Peterhead, which saw Hibs finish top of Group C and progress into the 2nd round of the competition.
Interestingly, five of Hibernian's last 10 away games have resulted in only one team scoring.
St Mirren v Hibernian Verdict
The previous seven meetings between St Mirren and Hibernian have been fairly equal with St Mirren claiming three wins, while Hibernian have collected four, so this upcoming opening fixture may well be a tightly fought encounter with perhaps Hibs scoring the only goal of the game.
Therefore, our main bet will be BTTS No @ 2.00
Other side bets worth considering:
Hibernian win @ 2.80
Correct Score: Hibernian 1-0 @ 9.50
