Here is our Motherwell v Hibernian tip and game preview. Based on our detailed analysis of statistics listed below and other factors, we predicted both teams to not score in this game, under 2.5 goals, and a Motherwell home win. Our confidence in this pick was moderate relative to other picks.
Motherwell picked up their form from last season and into this new Scottish Premiership campaign as they collected a point in their opening fixture with a 1-1 draw away from home at Dundee which not only saw Motherwell get themselves off the mark in this term, but also extended their unbeaten run overall to seven matches.
This solid run of six matches without defeat towards the end of last season's campaign helped Motherwell to the top of the Relegation Group table in the second phase of the domestic season and therefore, the ‘best of the rest' outside of the top six and the Championship Group.
Four wins and two draws handed Motherwell a promising finish to the season in the form of victories over Kilmarnock, St Johnstone, Ross County and Dundee United, while points gained in draws with Celtic and Livingston were also worthy of note.
Interestingly, six of Motherwell's last seven league matches have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals and perhaps the goals market is the best option for this clash as Hibernian represent a tricky customer for the hosts.
Hibernian finished the regular Scottish Premiership season in fifth place and chasing Hearts' coat-tails and this is how the second phase of the season ended also, as Hibs were unable to overhaul The Jambos into a fourth place finish and claim a European spot.
Hibs only just missed out by a two-point margin and although they picked up important wins against Hearts, St Mirren and most impressive of all, a 4-2 victory over Celtic, it was a case of too little too late for the Edinburgh club who had earlier suffered what would prove to be a defining four-match losing streak.
The visitors will point at their losses incurred against Rangers, Celtic, Motherwell and Dundee United from early March through to early April as the moment their hopes and ambitions of a European spot were ultimately dashed by way of their league position but Hibs were handed an opportunity via the back-door as Celtic won the league, FA Cup and League Cup, meaning a European spot opened up as Hibs finished in fifth spot.
Form and results away from home were also not quite up to scratch either though as Hibs could only win three of their last 15 outings on the road as well, while their opening game of this season's Scottish Premiership ended in a 3-2 loss at home to St Mirren.
Motherwell v Hibernian Verdict
Motherwell have managed to capture just one win from their previous eight meetings against Hibernian but the hosts are currently enjoying a solid spell of results in the Premiership and they could well keep things tight against the visitors in a low-scoring duel at Fir Park.
Therefore, our main bet will be Under 2.5 goals @ 1.80
Other side bets worth considering:
Motherwell win @ 2.62
Correct score: Motherwell 2-0 @ 13.00
