Segunda Liga outfit, AVS Futebol, took a big step towards securing Portuguese top flight football for next season when they registered a creditable 2-1 win away from home at Primeira Liga relegation play-off opposition, Portimonense, at the Estádio Municipal de Portimão, and the second tier hosts now return to the more familiar surroundings of their Estádio Clube Desportivo das Aves with just 90 minutes separating them from promotion up to the Primeira Liga.

However, although AVS Futebol finished the regular Segunda Liga campaign in third place and therefore qualified for this play-off against the third from bottom finishers in the Primeira Liga, it should be noted that AVS have managed to capture just three wins out of their last 10 matches overall.

Interestingly, all three victories were achieved on their travels with wins collected at Benfica B, Pacos Ferreira and last week's 1st leg win at Portimonense while also slipping to four defeats as well within this period.

Results on home soil in recent times though have seen AVS Futebol producing far from convincing displays as Jorge Costa's side have lost three of their last four home games having been dealt defeats by the likes of Santa Clara, Porto B and Tondela respectively.

Portimonense now have just 90 minutes in which to save their Portuguese top flight status following last week's disastrous 2-1 defeat at home to AVS Futebol but having managed to register just two wins from their last 16 matches overall, the visitors look to have their work cut out if they are to overhaul this 2-1 deficit on Sunday night at the Estádio Clube Desportivo das Aves.

The one glimmer of hope for Portimonense is that both of their two aforementioned wins were achieved on the road at Chaves 3-2 and Farense 3-1 but having also been dealt nine defeats as well, the prospects of an away win here do seem to hang in the balance somewhat.

The goals market appeals here though as eight out of Portimonense's last 10 games on the road overall have resulted in Over 2.5 goals being scored and this looks a good option as AVS cannot afford to sit back in an attempt to hold out for 90 minutes, while Portimonense need to be on the front foot here if they are to overcome this 2-1 deficit.

The only previous meeting between AVS Futebol and Portimonense was last week's 1st leg which resulted in a 2-1 away win for AVS but this two-legged play-off is far from over and further goals should be expected here on Sunday night as Portimonense throw the proverbial kitchen sink at their hosts.
