Fiorentina vs Genoa Preview

A mid-table clash in Serie A on Monday night features 10th placed Fiorentina taking on 12th placed Genoa with Fiorentina looking to prevent a third league defeat on the trot following last weekend's 1-0 defeat away from home at Juventus, while Genoa will be seeking to collect back-to-back wins away from home in the Italian top flight following last week's 2-1 win at Verona.

A previous 2-1 loss at home to AC Milan beforehand means Fiorentina have lost their last two games on the trot in the domestic top flight and the bigger picture doesn't instil much confidence either as Vincenzo Italiano's side have managed to capture just two wins from their previous 12 matches which has left the hosts seven points adrift of sixth placed Atalanta and the last of the European spots.

However, six defeats within this 12-match sequence suggests the goals markets may be a safer option for this clash especially as six of Fiorentina's last 10 matches have resulted in both teams scoring.

Genoa halted a previous four-match winless run in Serie A last weekend with a welcome and much needed 2-1 victory away from home at Verona as the visitors recovered from back-to-back defeats at the hands of Inter Milan and Monza in 2-1 and 3-2 defeats respectively along with draws with Juventus and Frosinone.

Despite currently occupying 12th place in the Serie A standings, overall form and results have been pretty encouraging for Genoa as the visitors have been handed just three defeats within their last 16 matches which includes a previous 4-1 loss at home to Atalanta but nevertheless, Genoa have also picked up five wins as well.

Victories against Sassuolo 2-1, Salernitana 2-1, Lecce 2-1, Udinese 2-0 and Verona 2-1 have at least helped steer Genoa away from the relegation battle below them but they have also been involved in no fewer than eight stalemates as well within this period which has prevented Alberto Gilardino's side from lifting themselves further up the Serie A table.

Nevertheless, goals look likely here on Monday evening as seven of Genoa's last 10 games overall have also seen both teams score.
