Empoli earned a point in a 1-1 draw away from home at Udinese last weekend in Serie A but Sunday evening's hosts still remain in the bottom three places in the Italian top flight table and desperately need a result here at their Stadio Carlo Castellani in order to avoid the drop, while Roma know they must register a landslide victory here and hope Atalanta lose in order for them to claim a Champions League spot for next season.

It's now four league matches without a win for Empoli who currently occupy third from bottom place in the Serie A table but the hosts are just one point behind fourth from bottom club Udinese and safety ahead of this final day of the season.

Recent defeats to Atalanta and Lazio, both away from home have done the damage and prevented Empoli from climbing out of the bottom three but the hosts have managed to gain points in draws with Frosinone and Udinese to give them a fighting chance of survival on Sunday evening.

However, league wins have been hard to come by for Davide Nicola's side as Empoli have managed to capture just two wins in their last 11 matches overall whilst slipping to seven defeats as well, but the goals market appeals here as seven of Empoli's last 10 home games have resulted in Under 2.5 goals.

Roma sit in sixth place in the Serie A table where they have control of the automatic Europa League spot but the visitors need all three points and win by at least a seven-goal margin along with hoping Atalanta lose their last two games if they are to have a chance of a Champions League place for next season.

This looks highly unlikely even against an Empoli outfit who have registered just two wins in 11 games in the domestic top flight despite Roma picking up a 1-0 home win against Genoa and losing just twice in their last 13 matches overall in Serie A.

Losses at the hands of Bologna and Atalanta have been countered by Roma picking up seven wins within their last 13 games which includes collecting victories on the road at Frosinone, Monza and Udinese, while five of Roma's last 10 games overall in the Italian top flight have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals.

Results away from home have been a bit of a mixed bag though where Roma have been concerned as the visitors have registered four wins, three draws but also three defeats as well, so all three points for Daniele de Rossi's side are by no means guaranteed here.

Roma inflicted a 7-0 thrashing upon Empoli earlier in the season but a much tighter and low-scoring affair is expected here.
