Dundalk earned a solid point on the road at Bohemians in last week's 1-1 draw at Dalymount Park but nevertheless this result was not enough to lift the hosts out of the relegation play-off spot as they still trail third from bottom club Bohemians by a four-point margin, while Galway United slipped down the Irish Premier Division table to sixth place following a 2-0 loss away from home at fourth placed Sligo Rovers.

Dundalk have picked up four points from their last two games though in the domestic top flight which includes collecting a previous and impressive 4-2 home win against Drogheda United in their recent relegation battle, so Jonathan Daly's side will be hoping they can extend their unbeaten run to three games when they play host to Galway United at Oriel Park on Friday night.

Results overall in recent times though have seen Dundalk produced a mixed bag of performances as the hosts have managed to capture just four wins in their last 10 games which saw them pick up vital victories against the likes of Shamrock Rovers, St Patrick's Athletic, Sligo Rovers and Drogheda United.

Galway United have registered just two wins in their last seven games overall in the Irish Premier Division which were both achieved on home soil at their Eamonn Deacy Park where they recorded victories over Drogheda United and Waterford respectively but they have also been handed four defeats as well into the bargain.

Interestingly, all four of Galway United's recent four losses were all incurred away from home at the likes of St Patrick's Athletic, Derry City, Shelbourne and Sligo Rovers thus casting some doubt as to whether the visitors can gain the upper hand against an equally inconsistent Dundalk outfit on Friday night.

However, the bigger picture shows Johnathan Caulfield's side have been dealt just the four defeats in their previous 16 games overall in the domestic top flight whilst picking up six wins in the process as well.

It is worth noting that no fewer than 13 of Galway United's aforementioned 16 games overall have also resulted in Under 2.5 goals being scored and this trend may well continue at Oriel Park on Friday night.
