Following their heavy 3-0 defeat away from home in last week's 1st leg tie of their Round of 16 in the Europa League, Rennes returned to winning ways in the French top flight on the weekend with a 3-1 home win against Clermont which will make the hosts feel a little better, while AC Milan's impressive six-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end on the weekend when they were handed a heavy 4-2 loss away from home at Monza in Serie A.

Rennes had also posted an impressive eight-match winning streak in all competitions as the French hosts had headed into last week's 1st leg of the knockout rounds against AC Milan in supreme winning form which included picking up four of these eight wins on home soil at their Roazhon Park on the domestic front.

Ligue 1 victories over Nice, Montpellier and Clermont along with a Coupe de France win against Marseille should still give Rennes plenty of reason to be upbeat about their chances of gaining a positive result here on Thursday night although it does look a long way back for Julien Stephan's side as they look to overturn a comprehensive 3-0 deficit here.

The goals market appeals here though as eight of Rennes' last 10 home games in all competitions have resulted in both teams scoring.

However, the visitors came a cropper away from home at Monza in the domestic Serie A on the weekend and Stefano Pioli's side will be wary of allowing their French counterparts back into this tie on Thursday night as they won't want a repeat of the result against Monza in this upcoming encounter.

The bigger picture shows AC Milan have slipped to just two defeats out of their last 14 matches across all competitions while also collecting no fewer than 10 wins in the process, so the visitors will also fancy their chances of gaining a positive result here and at least avoiding defeat.

In addition, the goals market looks very appealing for this upcoming encounter as no fewer than eight of AC Milan's last 10 outings on the road overall have also resulted in both teams hitting the back of the net as well.
