Freiburg gained a creditable and worthy point in a 2-2 draw at home against Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga last Friday night but although this result would have been considered a useful one, the fact still remains that the hosts have managed to win just once in their last eight matches in all competitions, while West Ham posted a second win on the trot on the weekend with a 3-1 win away at Everton in the Premier League.

Freiburg's singular highlight in these last eight games overall came in the shape of an extra-time 3-2 win at home against French Ligue 1 side Lens in the play-offs of the Europa League which sent them into the knockout round phase of the competition but the German hosts have also slipped to four defeats within these eight games as well.

Losses in the German domestic top flight to Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund and Augsburg will have done very little in terms of a boost ahead of this two-legged Europa League tie against West Ham but the goals market appeals here as six of Freiburg's last eight games overall have resulted in both teams scoring.

West Ham will be feeling a lot better about themselves heading into this 1st leg clash in Germany on Thursday night having posted back-to-back wins in the Premier League against Brentford 4-2 at home along with last weekend's resounding 3-1 win away from home at Everton, lifting The Hammers up into seventh place in the Premier League as a result.

West Ham had previously slumped to eight games without a win however beforehand which included losses at the hands of Manchester United, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League along with a disappointing defeat on the road at Championship outfit Bristol City in the FA Cup.

Interestingly, three of West Ham's recent four losses have been dealt out to The Hammers on their travels and the bigger picture seems to underline a potential weakness for David Moyes' side ahead of this 1st leg tie away at Freiburg as the London club have managed to capture just five wins from their last 14 outings on the road in all competitions.

European pedigree is a little thin on the ground at Europa League level for West Ham but the visitors lifted the Europa Conference League crown at the end of last season which suggests they should at least be able to hit the back of the net at the Europa-Park Stadion on Thursday night.
